Concept of an active steering link

Safety and reliability figure prominently in mobility, making them a crucial competitive factor alongside of costs for companies and traffic carriers. Research essentially revolves around developments in the areas of

  • smart chassis (increasing driving safety)
  • using smart systems (actuators and sensors) to compensate for vibrations
    • in the body shell (roof and glazing)
    • in the power train
    • in the engine compartment
  • structural health monitoring (extending service intervals and lowering structural weight)
  • energy-absorbing materials/structures (increasing collision safety)
  • airbag systems to protect passengers
  • non-destructive testing methods (targeting wheel-rail and aviation and integrating them into production processes)
  • assessing the behavior of components under mechanical, thermal and corrosive loads
  • the reliability of components and systems (developing experimental and numerical detection methods)
